Rules & Guidelines

Hi there
We’re Hard Candy, a dedicated platform for women to share their stories - because every story, whether serious, silly, or simple matters. Our goal is to build a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and a little more connected to each other.
We publish an online zine every quarter featuring the creative work of the women of Nashville. And by women, we mean this in the most inclusive way possible. We want to hear from cis women, trans women, femme-identifying creators, and nonbinary individuals. So while we’re aiming to be as welcoming as possible, we probably won’t include art from cis men. Sorry, not sorry. 🤷♀️
Thank you so much for your interest in being featured in Hard Candy! We are so excited to read/see/experience your work. Before you start submitting, please look over the rules and guidelines below. Then, please use our submission form to upload your work. Let’s go!!
There is no specific genre or theme we are specifically looking for, so let your imagination run wild, y’all!

Rules & Such
-
Submissions must be created by artists in Nashville and the surrounding areas (Davidson Co.). They must also be by cis women, trans women, femme-identifying creators, or nonbinary individuals. You must be 18+ to submit work.
-
We currently do not compensate artists for their submissions.
-
Each person may submit up to 4 pieces per publication period. Poems or prose pieces may have visual elements to go with them. Multiple pieces may be featured in a single publication. If we do not use your submitted work for the current issue, we reserve the right to use it in a future issue.
-
Pieces may be no longer/larger than 1 spread. The magazine is 8.5" x 11" so your piece can be 7.5"x10" (1 page) or 16"x10" (1 spread) max. This allows for a 1/2" margin. If pieces are larger, we will shrink them down proportionately to this max size.
-
Visual art submissions should be sent as a jpg or png (resolution size of 300dpi).
-
Full color is welcome.
-
Poetry and prose can be submitted in .doc or .docx but you can also have fun with the style! Feel free to handwrite it and submit it as an image (png or jpg). See examples below:

-
We reserve the right to change fonts and manipulate format to fit the publication - please leave a note if formatting is important to the piece.
-
Submitted work can be previously published elsewhere as long you are within the parameters set by that publication.
-
We reserve the right to add trigger warnings if deemed appropriate.
-
We will respond to everyone who submits work. It may take up to 2 weeks, so please be patient with us!
